March 1745
My Dear
Friend,
It
has come to my attention that rumor and innuendo concerning our glorious
cause has been circulating through my father’s kingdom.
Vicious lies, no doubt sown by those who oppose the cause of
freedom, have, I understand, stated that your lawful King has abandoned
you to the Usurper.
This is patently false.
I can assure you of my arrival soonest and shall correspond as to my
date and location shortly, but for the future you can bolster your
constitution with the knowledge that your King across the sea has the
greatest of love and affection for you, his most loyal subjects.
I
will add that I have been most fortunate in the friendship and assistance
of Mssr’s MacDonald and Walsh, among others, whose steadfastness and
support for our glorious cause is to their credit.
This is in direct contrast to those of my father’s court who
profess an affection for his people but seem little interested in more
than idle words. Those such
as Sempill and Balhaldy have betrayed us and are no longer welcome in my
presence.
I feel the time for talk has ended and the time for action is upon us.
Prepare yourselves for the contest that must happen….
It is my
complete honor to remain,
Your servant
Ch.
